Rising to New Heights of Douchedom

Wow. Just wow.

New details have emerged about the midnight altercation between Chris Brown and Rihanna that led to Brown being booked on a felony criminal threat charge on Sunday. "Chris knocked her around," a source close to the couple tells PEOPLE. "Black eye, blood, bruises. She had to be treated by a doctor." A police source confirms to PEOPLE that the singer suffered a black eye as well as "a swollen split lip and two red and purple contusions on either side of her forehead." The source, who described police photos of Rihanna, added, "She looked distraught and in a lot of pain. Her eyes were closed because she was looking down." ... The case could be affected by how much Rihanna is willing to forgive her boyfriend. "Prosecutors back off somewhat when they see a couple trying to work out their own issues," says Steve Sitkoff, an L.A. defense attorney. But, says the friend, "I would be so sad if she went back to him." [people]

Wow. Just Wow.

R&B star Chris Brown is "cool" over his arrest on felony criminal threats charges, according to close pal T.I....Rapper T.I. has since spoken to Brown, and admits the singer is barely fazed over the incident. He tells radio host Carson Daly, "Yeah, I spoke to him today. He cool, you know. I guess he a little concerned about the situation, but he's still the same Chris." And T.I., who is set to serve around a year in jail beginning next month after pleading guilty to federal weapons charges, has pleaded with the public not to pass judgement on Brown. He adds, "I told him this too shall pass. Hey man, you people gotta remember, we celebrities and we entertainers but we still human. All of us. Don't expect us not to make mistakes 'cause we will." An Open Letter to T.I., Chris Brown, and Rihanna

First, allow me to extend a hearty “FUCK YOU” to you both. If they were giving out awards for being first-class assholes, you two would surely be first on the list.

Chris Brown: You’re really a helluva guy, beating up on your girlfriend (so badly, btw, that her lip was split, her eyes were blackened, and bite marks were present), leaving her by the side of the road, and driving off – why that’s just what every mother wants for her daughter. That’s just how every girl wants to be treated. It’s a good thing someone heard her cries and called the police – God knows how long she would have suffered out there alone were it not for the kindness of strangers. And, yeah – I know you were abused as a kid “wah wah wah” cry me a river. Plenty of people are abused during their lives, but they don’t use it as an excuse to continue the abuse on others. It doesn’t give you license to be an animal. Overcome it. And make sure you break the cycle. That’s what you do. Not this.

T.I.: You’re really a helluva friend, ain’t ya? Consoling your thug of a friend and assuring him that “this too shall pass” because “we all make mistakes” is the mark of true loyalty. Um, beating the shit out of someone is not a MISTAKE, asshole. Beating the shit out of someone is a choice, a bad one. Wake up, you friggin’ loser – kids look up to you and you say shit like this? Basically condoning the beating of a woman? That’s just great. Real role model. Enjoy your year in prison, model citizen.

Rihanna: Right now, you’re confused. Listen to the people around you and rid this loser from your life once and for all. He can never change. Abusers of this kind have the lowest rehabilitation rate. There is no good he could possibly do for you or anyone. The best thing you can do is to make sure he gets charged to the fullest extent of the law. You’ll not only do yourself a service, but the public as well.

Signed,
Angry and Disappointed in NY

Really, so very glad all this is happening in response to this bullshit:
This kind of rejection should happen to every man who lays a hand on a woman. Nuff said.

Nicole, I totally agree with everything you said in your open letters. Also, to T.I.: Verbs. Use them.

I hope Rihanna stays far away from Chris.

Sorry in advance for a very long comment.

On the one hand, I'm glad that this is so high-profile so it will draw much-needed attention to domestic abuse. Of course, we're talking about the abuse of a very public figure, so I am not really sure how this will ultimately help average women--the women who really do need to be in fear of their lives because the justice system is not nearly hard enough on abusers and the police can or do not provide the necessary protection. Look at what happened to Jennifer Hudson's entire family.

The really good thing about her being a celebrity is that she is a real example of how a beautiful, talented, and successful woman can fall victim to this. I hope it will help mitigate some of the shame that other victims feel about their own situations, and that it will make people think twice about judging the victims--there are a lot of preconceived notions about victims of abuse.

I also hope they make an example out of Chris Brown. but even if they do, I don't believe it will deter any abusers from doing what they do best. Abusers don't tend to think about the consequences of their actions. And when they do get in trouble, they usually place blame for their actions on the victim. There is no excuse for this behavior, and I hope there is no perception that "Oh, poor guy--he has a rough childhood" in ANY WAY gives him license to pull this shit. I know people who have grown up under some pretty terrible circumstances who have turned out to be some of the most wonderful, loving people you'd ever meet. At some point you have to become an adult and start taking responsibility for your actions, instead of blaming your upbringing and/or your victims.

I heard on the radio that some rapper said Chris Brown is now "Dead Man Walking".
