Red Carpet Wrap-Up: Golden Globes 2009

The Golden Globes are over and done, but tongues are still wagging. Especially over some very unfortunate red carpet mishaps. Read on to catch up, in case you missed the action...

Joan:
For the most part, the ceremony was boring. But surprising winners. Namely, mickey rourke. Did u see ryan get snubbed by brangelina? Classic.

Melissa:
i did, for the most part. i was so freakin' bored. just could not get into it. i did hear about the brangelina snub, but didn't see it. wtf? who do they think they are? ugh, i'm so over that aristocratic shit. i heard that the wrestler is amazing. but i didn't see rourke win. he's so damn weird lookin'.

J: yes, me too. I saw the snub and still have d-chills. 1st: when are these talking heads going to realize that you never, ever race down off your podium to catch up w/a star on the red carpet. It makes you look eager and desperate. 2nd: how hard would it have been for brangelina to turn to him quickly and say: they’re rushing us inside, but we’ll catch you later? Seriously??? The open snubbing was just so rude. And made them look, like you say — aristocratic... Enough already. Get over yourselves. And, she needs a stylist. That woman is afraid of color. On to Mickey... That speech was awkward, but I loved every second. He said “balls” twice, got his director to give him the finger, and wore sunglasses — who does that except Jack? Lol. Genius.

M: i missed rourke but read about the banter this morning. good stuff. i was irritated beyond belief with kate winslet and i'm never irritated by her. and i swear at one point, she had her left arm under the table and it looked like she was rubbed leonardo's leg. hmmm... with sam mendes sitting right there.

J: YESSSSSSSSSSS. I am so glad you mentioned this. I found her speeches too self-congratulatory and obnoxious. A lot of the speeches were too long. They all shoulda taken a lesson from Tom Hanks, short — sweet. Off. That’s how it’s done. And her comments to Leo were more intimate than her hubby. Which weirded me out. On to fashion: lots of nice gowns. Reem Acra was very popular last night. Love the draping and folding of that line. And surprise — Cameron Diaz actually looked good. But her gal pal Drew musta sniffed too much hairspray. The dress was fab, but her hair! My god... What a train wreck.

M: the panting and unending "shock" was a bit much. you'd think she just discovered the cure for cancer or sumthin.' geez. maggie gylenhall looked like shit. esp since this her first major outing and representin' since the dark knight, you'd figure she would have taken it up a notch, or ten. drew, oh boy. i think homegirl was high as a kite as she did her high-as-a-kite hairdo. i'm not sure about cameron. the dress looked kinda ill-fitting and her hair looked undone. the whole wind-blown surfer chick she has going on doesn't always translate to these polished award shows. i saw marisa tomei end up on some worst-dressed lists, but i liked her get-up actually.

J: lol. So true. Maggie seems to usually get it wrong. Some people try to go for edginess and just end up looking quirky. Same w/Marisa. I like what she wore for another event — people’s choice perhaps. But the GG’s and the AA’s are about glamour. The thing about Carmeron is she almost always gets it wrong for this very reason. And last night, I thought — not bad, considering. I even liked the hair. I liked Elizabeth Banks (though it could have fit better up top), I liked Eva Longoria (god help me...i did) and I really liked Kate Beckinsale. Lots of white and blush on the carpet. I didn’t see a lot of color. Angelina was so blah. Boring. People are raving about Eva Mendes’ dress, but I thought it was meh. Dior, ok. But, meh. I really like Anne Hathaway's dark blue Armani Prive against her pale skin. Lovely.

M:
you know how much i hate washed out muted tones on white girls with really light hair. case in point, elizabeth banks, drew barrymore. i can't think of others, but they were there. these girls need the color. and angelina -- can i just tell you? talk about ice queen. geez. i think i froze for the few seconds of looking at her. lighten up. good lord, she has it all and yet still acts snotty. get of your high horse.

J: so, the love affair is over, eh? When did you two break up? OHHHHHH. Speaking of love affairs and ours with Tina Fey—her speech was hee-larious. And so was Tracy Jordan’s acceptance speech for 30 Rock. “Tina and I made a deal that if Barack Obama won, I’d get to represent 30 Rock at these type of events. So, here we go.” Oh, man. I was laughing so hard, I was crying.

M: tracy morgan's speech was hilarious as was tina's. such a great grouping of people and an amazing show. i STILL want either steve carell and/or the office to freakin' win one already. i admit, i missed a lot of the speeches, i just didn't have the bandwidth to listen to most of them. but a lot did seem looong. geez, no wonder these shows are three + hours long.

J: Yes, The Office deserves props. I know, the speeches were brutal. And considering, it only went over time 5 minutes. Oh, here’s a total trainwreck for a girl who normally gets it right: Renee Zelwegger. She’s my worst dressed. Hands down. I still can’t decide on a best dressed though. Lots of good contenders.

M: glenn close also looked pretty shitty. RW was awful. as was drew's hair. but for best dressed, i have a few too. eva rocked the vampy red dress. she was one of the few to wear such a bold and bright color.

J: did you happen to se seal and heidi? Holy s... They were a friggin’ train wreck. And america ferrerra’s dress — looked like plastic. So stiff. She usually look fab. Defintiely a miss. I think as of now, I’m going w/kate beckinsale as best dressed. But I know someone did a color I really liked. I gotta look better.

M: i'm looking forward to watching the E fashion police coverage as a nutshell way to see it all.

Did you ladies see ew.com's picks for best and worst dressed? On many of them, I feel completely opposite!

When will the fashion police coverage be on?
