It's all in the details...

More info coming of the wire regarding the TomKat nuptials to take place this weekend. E! Online has been keeping a scorecard of ridiculousness. My comments in CAPS.

Some of its recent dispatches about the pending Cruise-Holmes vows:

  • Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli will sing "Ave Maria" at the traditional Scientology ceremony. [DUDE, HE'S SO SLUMMING. HE'S NOW LOST ALL CREDIBILITY FOR ME.]
  • Traditional Scientology vows go something like this (per various accounts), "Now, Tom, girls need clothes and food and tender happiness and frills—a pan, a comb, perhaps a cat... Do you then provide? Do you?" [WHODA WHAT, WHAT?]
  • And they also go like this (per the New York Times), "Hear well, sweet Katie, for promise binds. Young men are free and may forget." [DOES THIS MEAN IT'S OK IF THE HUSBAND CHEATS? I'M NOT OK W/THAT.]
  • ... said ceremony will reportedly be held be at a castle at Lake Bracciano in Central Italy.
  • Odescalchi...was built in the 15th century. It has a private chapel, 12 halls and 300 parking spaces....
  • Guests will number in the hundreds, among them Hollywood's Scientology elite, including John Travolta, wife Kelly Preston and ...Kirstie Alley.
Posh and Becks will be attending too and you can bet that other Xenu-fearers, will be there. E! also reported yesterday that there will be a Catholic ceremony prior to the Scientology ceremony and the festivities will last days. Pomp and circumstance commence!

..wait...why are they having a Catholic ceremony prior to the Scientology one? Isn't that, like, illegal or something? And why have it if neither one of them is Catholic (or at least aren't any more)? So confused...

apparently, to appease her parents.
I don't even know how they're managing a catholic ceremony -- i didn't think priests could marry off church property and outside the faith. if katie's officially taken up scientology, then obviously there's some payola involved.

how can there be any traditional scientology rituals? isn't scientology about 3 years old?

Ave Maria is being sung at the Scientology ceremony? Isn't that a Catholic song?

Scientology is about 50 years old. L. Ron thought it up about that many years ago after a drunken stupor...

well, I have no idea if it was after a night of binge drinking, but it sure seems like it could be true.
