I don't know what all the fuss is about... So-called entertainment experts are calling Jon Stewart a Hollywood outsider; that his performance at the 2006 Oscars will most likely bomb, comparing previous hosts like Letterman (who, in retrospect wasn't all that bad) and Chris Rock. But, they're forgetting...late-night king, Johnny Carson hosted to Oscars for many years, consecutively and to much acclaim. Now, I'm not saying the ring has been passed to Jon because Johnny is no longer with us. I'm saying, Hollywood outsider? My ass. I have faith in Jon Stewart... I think his self-deprecating humor and off-the-cuff wit will serve him well tomorrow night. His stellar cast of crazy writers will be backstage preparing the jokes with aplomb and Jon will deliver them with ease and style...and he will bring the funny. You'll see...
"Stewart and his staff have free comedic rein and plan to focus their jokes on the Oscar pomp, he says. But the serious subject matter of the year's best picture candidates -- revenge, racism, injustice, murder and doomed romance -- could present some challenges.
"You're gonna see a ton of 'Munich' stuff. Lots of hilarity to be mined there," Stewart deadpans. "This would not be the easiest song parody in the world to pull off. Not a whole lot rhymes with 'Syriana' or 'Capote.' "" [CNN]

He doesn't get enough credit.
Johnny
Jon was absolutely fabulous. He should host every year.
I loved him, too. I think he did a fine job. Lots of funny tidbits... especially the filmed bits leading into the show and his bit about Scientology. Very clever.
