Huge Loss in Revenue, not just for writers...

Just to show you how friggin' heartless and callous Hollywood bigwigs are being over this strike... Remember it's not just the writers affected by the loss of work. It's not just rich people taking a stand... The entire industry hinges on the results of this strike: Because scripts can't be written, actors can't work, directors can't direct, which means... everyone from the gaffers and the grips to the craft services people are shit out of luck and wondering where and when their next paycheck is gonna come from. And for most low-paying Hollywood employees, that's a scary prospect.

Take a look at what the cancellation of one award show, the Globes, will cost Hollywood:
  • What we’re looking at is an economic impact from the Golden Globes of about $70 to $80 million each time the event is held, and with the cancellation, there’s probably a lot of people looking at refund policies, because the production costs were already spent with a lot of people planning on parties.
  • We count at least five [after] parties that have been canceled, and that comes to about $2.5 million.
  • What about the Academy Awards?: We’ve done more research on that, and that’s around $130 million, and it has unexpected impacts. For example, there’s a firm in Los Angeles called ABS by Alan Schwartz, and what he does is knock-offs of the most popular gowns on the red carpet, and so if there’s no red carpet, there’s not business for Alan Schwartz.
  • ...the impact of the lost wages [of WGA members and below-the-line workers], when you apply that ripple factor, it’s about $1.4 billion.
  • Do any of your numbers or predictions account for advertising that would be lost in airing these shows?: NBC estimates that they’re going to lose about $14 to $15 million in ad revenues.

Craziness.

All these pricks will pay an actor millions of dollars to make one movie, but they can't find the money to pay writers -- the creators of every project made -- what they're simply entitled to? Come on already. Just do it.

at the same time, the lack of awards shows probably has saved the environment from a lot of greenhouse gases!
