Doh!

The clever marketing execs over at Paramount thought it would be a neat idea to place a device in a number of LA Times newspaper boxes throughout LA. When the door is opened, the device is activated to play the theme music to Mission Impossible. How stupid do you have to be to think this will get people into theatres?

Welp, I guess they didn't think their swell plan through enough, cause the whole thing kinda 'blew up' in their faces...literally:
"a Los Angeles Times reader in Santa Clarita mistook his friendly neighborhood newspaper rack for a device on the verge of spontaneous combustion....he inserted his quarter, opened the lid and saw a small plastic box with a few wires poking out of it sitting on top of the papers. He subsequently called the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department...and the Canyon Country division's arson and explosives team was dispatched to investigate...After spying the red plastic box, authorities proceeded to "render the device useless," Camarillo said. Or, to put it in more Mission: Impossible-friendly terms: They blew that sucker up!" [eonline]
