HOT MESS at the VMAs

Ugh, Brit Brit opened the VMAs tonite, which apparently won't be reaired (hope you caught the hot mess's opening act). If not, you'll have to live vicariously through 2nd hand reports and catty blogs -- like this one.
Britney Spears kicked off the 2007 MTV Video Music Awards tonight (Sept. 9) in Las Vegas with a performance of her new song, "Gimme More," decked out in a sparkly bra and briefs, with knee-high black boots. It was the embattled Spears' first major public appearance in the run-up to the Nov. 13 release of her first Jive album in four years. [billboard]
Brit was looking a little chunky, uncomfortable, and very unsure of her footing on stage. It was obvious she was nervous. She also didn't sing a lick -- she chose instead to lipsync the entire song. Were it not for the bevy of back-up dancers, you would have been forced to pay attention to Brit's terrible dance moves (several times I think I actually caught her trying to remember which move came next). She's clearly out of practice or hopped up on something.

Kudos to Sarah Silverman, who came out just after Brit's 'performance' and had the guts to tear her a new asshole. LOL...

Didn't catch much of the red carpet, but how fab does Rihanna look???

When the show began with that looong close-up of Brit-Brit's horrible hair extensions, I knew we were in trouble. And I wasn't sure if it was my widescreen or not, but DAMN--that girl has some meaty thighs, no? My main complaint though, is this: Why bother to perform if you can not/aren't going to actually sing? Lord knows that the clumsy clomping around she did isn't enough to save that sorry shit-show of a performance. Hopefully, Britney's "manny" has removed all sharp instruments and prescription drugs from her hotel room before she hears tomorrow's reviews...

(side note: I thought Sarah Silverman was a little out of line, calling the kids "mistakes." Britney may be a lot of things, but there's no need to rip on her kids/babies like that.)

true, it's messed up to bring her kids into it... but funny as hell! she did call them cute :)

homegirl was looking chuuuuunky last night! And stumbling around that stage like she didn't know where the hell she was? I'm okay with the lip-sync when they want to concentrate on the dancing, but she looked like a drunk toddler up there! I was personally bummed about the missing Criss Angel bit...wtf man?! Pretty shiteous all around. I'm reminded of the words of the sage LL Cool J - "don't call it a comeback." Seriously Brit, don't. I agree that SS was out of line calling her kids mistakes though - not cool, baby cheeto & co can't help where they came from.

It's not fair to call those kids "mistakes," sure--but it's also not really truthful to say they're cute...those jowly bastards. ;)

Didn't see the actual performance, just caught the recaps, and that was enough for me. Oof! Brit-Brit didn't not disappoint.

Sorry...Brit-Brit did NOT disappoint. Nice. It's still too early for me.
